Unfortunately since it was my first time there; I was one of the schlubs. I wish I had known about all the hook-ups beforehand. We skipped the cheese because we wanted to make sure we had room for the dessert, which was awesome. My favorite was the rice crispy treats dipped in chocolate! Overall, I thought the food was above average but not worth the price. However, the experience and atmosphere makes up for the cost. I feel the same way about U R Cooks- If I wanted to grill my own steak, I could do it a lot cheaper at home. Of course U R Cooks and Melting Pot are not even in the same ballpark, Melting Pot is much classier, but you get the point.

The other thing that bugs me is that after a visit to the Melting Pot you smell like oil for the rest of the day and practically have to burn your clothes.

I think this is a great idea for grabbing a chocolate fondue dessert, but other than that count me out.

You didn't mention how incredibly expensive it is....

You didn't mention how incredibly expensive it is. I understand the time you are sitting at the table, but all they are doing is cutting up the food and mixing the fondue - you are the one cooking it.

I like fondue as well, but the last time we went for New Years our waiter (who said it was his last night working) but a 20% automatic tip on our bill. It was only two of us. I don't know if he did it because it was his last night - or that is customary. Regardless it left a bad taste in my mouth (after a great meal) and have no desire to go back. I also blogged about it here:
http://guitaristwidow.blogspot.com/2008/01/happy-new-year.html

Did your trip to the Melting Pot include the instr...

Did your trip to the Melting Pot include the instruction of what happens if you lose your food from your fondue fork? I get a waiter who explains it about every other visit...and it varies. Generally speaking, though, if a woman loses food from her fondue fork, she owes a kiss. If a man does it, he has to buy the next round of drinks. WTF? What the Hell happened to equality, huh?

Anyhow, I once had a waiter who gave a history of how that "rule" of fondue came about.
